If you haven’t seen the live stuff Ian and his band did in here for Black in Bluhm session number three you can see it HERE Now they are back to track another epic tune, following the same theme and more or less the same recording process. These guys are so well rehearsed and we were joking today that with only four of these songs you could have an awesome full length! It was nice to take a little more time today on tones as apposed to the “pressure” of the B I B session where you gotta get stuff rolling pretty quick before everyone is too drunk. Always a pleasure to work with these guys!
Stabbed in back is a punk band from Albuquerque that just did an EP in two fun filled days here at Black in Bluhm. That mix should be done soon. Thanks to those guys for setting up a show with The Gamits a couple weekends ago and taking us to all the Breaking Bad locations! Oh and the show was fun too.
I’ve been bragging up Sawmill Joe for a while now and as I sit here finishing up the master I’m wishing Black in Bluhm had the money to put out this album. There’s 14 songs but they are saving 4 of them as bonus tracks or something. If somebody besides the band doesn’t put this out I may have to sell my car for the cause.
Back to work.
Ian Cooke and band will be joining us tomorrow for another “live” recording and video shoot! This will be the last B.I.B. session of 2012 and we plan to keep em coming next year. I think tomorrow we will finally use our giant green screen that has been taking up space ever since we moved in. Suggestions for what exotic locations we should have Ian shredding the cello in are welcome. Tonight I’ll be helping with sound at Lost Lake Lounge for the Fuck Cancer benefit show put on by my business partner and good friend Dan Fox. Here’s the facebook event page. http://www.facebook.com/events/518378291525037/ There’s bands and a raffle and and silent auctions on all kinds of rad stuff including free mastering at Black in Bluhm. Please come support a great cause!
07 Dec / The Knew and Andy Thomas
Ya know Andy started drumming for The Knew recently. A job that I coveted for a minute. Around the same time they came in and tracked 10 new songs with their original drummer Pat who has since moved to the south. We did the meat of the tracking live which was a really fun time and over the last month or two the guys have been showing up randomly to fill out the tracks and do vocals and such. We had Patrick Lee come in a few nights ago to do some keys. He is one of those guys who is a total pleasure to witness in action. He can completely shred a song after hearing it once and it makes you want to either quit playing an instrument or actually practice. Tyler busted out some hot leads and last night Jacob come in and did some LV’s. Always fun to work with some of my best buddies which is what’s happening tonight too! Andy Thomas (Tin Horn Prayer) starts tracking a new solo project this evening and then we are going out for drinks with our ladies. Should be a good time.
We’re trying to do one of these every couple months. This was recorded 90% live. Just went back to overdub a couple things like Chad’s harmonies which took one take I think. Thanks to everyone involved! Good times! Please spread it around and get stoked for the new Drag the River album!http://fortheloveofpunk.com/bib-sessions-drag-the-river-history-of-history/
